Monte Thompson

Originally from Arizona, Monte Thompson discovered Fine Art in his youth through images of Michelangelo’s sculptures. A self-taught sculptor and draughtsman, Monte traveled across the United States to Connecticut seeking out the great works in numerous collections on the East Coast. In the presence of these majestic paintings, his passion for oil painting was ignited.

In 2011, through the generosity of the Griffis Art Center and Orpheus Foundation, Monte was awarded an Artist in Residence in Polkovnik Serafimovo, Bulgaria, where the warmth and kindness of the Bulgarian people invigorated his love of Art. It was here that he was able to truly live as an artist, painting the villages and people of Bulgaria, with their rich history and culture inspiring numerous paintings and drawings. Active within several organizations, he continues to display artwork in various exhibitions throughout the United States.

Currently working from his studio in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Monte continues to develop his understanding of life through oil painting, drawing, and sculpture, and the vitality within each medium. His artwork explores the beauty that surrounds us through visual simplicity, movement of light, and the tension of opposite but complementary qualities.

  1. Hello Monte,

RE: Sedona Art Prize Painting Competition

I am writing to see if you would be interested in entering The Sedona Art Prize, an ONLINE international painting competition sponsored by the Sedona Arts Center and Gateway To Sedona. It is found at http://www.SedonaArtPrize.com. Top prize is $5000.00 cash plus option for a Sedona solo exhibit and two-week Sedona residency. Last year’s winners included George Bodine ($5000.00), Ned Mueller ($1000.00), Jason Sacran ($1000.00), among others. Please let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to share this opportunity with other artists you know. Thanks for your attention.

    1. That’s a great question. Any book on Sargent is a worthy addition. I love the books by Richard Ormond, he is Sargent’s grand-nephew and has done wonderful work.

  2. First of all ,you have picked a very beautiful template . I think i might design something similar for a future blog that i want to build . On top of that ,i really enjoy most of the posts and your different point of view.Good Job
